Keep Bristol Warm - Community event in aid of the homeless on Sunday December 11th 2016
Posted on: 02 Dec 2016On Sunday December 11th 2016, Keep Bristol Warm will hold a huge event at The Bearpit in order to raise as many donations of items useful for the homeless as possible. It will also raise awareness of the ongoing issues faced by Bristol’s street sleepers.
From 3pm-6pm The Keep Bristol Warm team, headed up as ever by the almost super-human Gavyn Emery, will be collecting donations of everything from a toothbrush to a warm winter coat and everything in between. Not only that, but the event will see performances from local artists who have been moved by the work done by KBW...
Same Souls are a Bristol based band who combine Americana stylings with a modern singer songwriter atmospheres, all the while keeping pop sensibilities and bringing it into their own generation with leanings to indie bringing their songs to life.
JCA Harmony Group (John Cabot Academy) - #Harmony
#Harmony started in 2014 and has developed into a larger group of 12 students aged 14 to 17. The group has performed at a number of venues across Bristol including the Colston Hall, Cabot Circus and the Cabot Learning Federation conferences and more recently, the Royal Albert Hall. Inspired by local and national groups, we sing a variety of musical repertoire, however the main emphasis is on the students creating and suggesting ideas for musical arrangements
Also joining KBW at the event will be Feed The Homeless
A group of volunteers from all walks of life, individually driven from different faiths and beliefs, who have come together to support and feed the homeless people in Bristol. At Present they are giving our home cooked meals every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, serving between 100 to 150 meals per evening. Incredible.
The aim of the day is to fill rucksacks with warm clothes, new socks, new underwear, sleeping bags, blankets, umbrellas, hats, scarves, thermals and anything else you think would help the homeless keep warm this winter. Sizes small and medium are most needed, but for coats a size large would be perfect. Please give whatever you can. No donation is too small or large and each and every item will make a difference. Because the people of Bristol are such a giving bunch, with a strong community spirit, a surplus of donations is a very real possibility! Therefore, any surplus will be handed to other superb Bristol organisations like Julian Trust, Spring Of Hope, One25, Crisis Centre Ministry, Logos House and many more.
Keep Bristol Warm is not a charity, it is a community initiative. They will never ask for monetary donations; simply donations of your time or items that will help those in need. It is an active social movement to demonstrate solidarity and community spirit to the homeless people of Bristol.
The previous events carried out the #KBW team have been a huge success in terms not only of donations but also in raising public awareness of the problems faced by those who call the streets of Bristol their home. As with previous events, the act of receiving a donation of a pair of shoes, a scarf or a warm coat is one thing...but knowing that someone cares enough to do that is another thing and really does go a long way. We need to keep raising awareness of the problem faced by our city and this will hopefully be yet another step on the long road.
