The Orb to Play at Motion

The Orb to Play at Motion

The legendary makers of ambient dance music will roll through Bristol for a show at Motion on the 10th December.

The Orb

The Orb have been balling ever since their ballistic emergence onto the dance music scene in the late '80s, with their injection of ambient house into an altogether louder and faster culture falling on welcome ears. Motivated by listening to DJ sets from the likes of Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream, the duo of Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty began making unobtrusively melodic beats under the spherical moniker.

Slowing the rhythms of Chicago house and adding gentle synths proved an adept combination, with their debut Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld winning them praise and fans in high and ranging places. Ever since the pair have been steadily carving out their legendary status, with their influence traceable in the work of contemporary successors like Underworld and Orbital, and the producers like Moby and Aphex Twin who continued their crusade into the 21st century.

Keeping the ball rolling, their latest tour of the sceptered isle coincides both with the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut and with the release of their latest LP, COW / Chill Out, World!, which has never seen them sounding so fresh. Their show at Motion on the 10th December is set to be its crowning glory.
