Jyotsna Srikanth & The Bollywood Brass Band to Play at St George’s Bristol

Posted on: 21 Oct 2016

The band will bring the rhythms of South India to the South West with a special performance in the converted church on Sunday October 30th, playing music from the films with a unique fusion of strings and brass.

The Bollywood Brass Band

Bollywood is one of the most prolific filmmaking industries in the world and has garnered a fan-base to reflect this. Music is arguably more central to these films than any other genre, and The Bollywood Brass Band have accrued quite a reputation for bringing the tunes which soundtrack them to a UK audience.

Fronted by Jyotsna Srikranth, the violin virtuoso, the large collective combines strings with brass in their ‘Carnatic connections’, engendering an idiosyncratic take on the classic music from Bollywood and South India, as well as new music written especially for this tour.

Their stay in Bristol, which falls on Sunday October 30th, will be hosted by St George’s, the converted church just off Park Street. The venue, usually home to jazz and classical music, is in possession of acoustics perfectly suited to such a big band, which will enable the subtleties of the individual performances to perforate brilliantly.

For more information on the collective, or to book from the range of tickets priced at £5-£15 (including u18 and student) for their performance, click here. Whilst there you can also find out about all the other great events at S George's.
