Bristol Cocktail Week 2016

Bristol Cocktail Week 2016

Posted on: 18 Oct 2016

The age-old adage has it that a cocktail a day keeps the doctor away - or have I got that wrong? Anyway, with a week’s worth of alcohol-infused events beginning today as part of Bristol Cocktail Week, you will be far too merry to worry about the ins and outs of old sayings. Or about your liver. Below is a day-by-day run-down of the week’s unmissable events.

Tuesday

The Art of Blending at The MilkThistle, 19.30

The MilkThistle

Whisky drinkers of Bristol, unite! And head down to Bristol’s original secret speak-easy for a master-class with Phil Huckle, the global brand ambassador for Chivas Regal. The £40 ticket price includes drinks, both neat and in cocktails, and a bottle of whisky brewed by your good self, to take home.

Wednesday

Bottle in Bond at Flipside, 19.00

Flipside

The week continues its strong start for the malt-minded, with a transatlantic whisky sampling at the renowned Whiteladies mixsters Flipside. Join American bourbon expert Russell Jackson, who will serve up three samples of the finest whiskies from across the Pond, with which the in-house team will create a trio of cocktails with accompanying nibbles. Tickets are £10.

Thursday

The History of the American Gin Cocktail at Hyde and Co, 19.30

Hyde and Co

Continuing the American theme, Hyde and Co. harks back to its anachronistic era by transforming into a 1920s jazz club for the evening. The menu will consist of drinks representing each era of classic gin cocktails, with three included in the price of the £22.50 ticket. As is the opportunity to tap your toes to some live jazz music.

Friday

A Drinker’s Guide to the City of Bristol, buses leave 19.00 and 20.00

Bus tour

From rum smuggling and sherry importing to gin distilling, Bristol’s streets tell a rich tale about the city’s alcoholic past. Join an outlandish tour guide in a double-decker bus (leaving from the Milkthistle) for a tour around town, with various stops accompanied by the sampling of sumptuous cocktails. The journey will take approximately 90 minutes, and tickets cost £25.

Saturday

The Cocktail Mixtape at The Old Bookshop, 19.00

The Old Bookshop

Closing this year’s Bristol Cocktail Week is a good, old-fashioned knees-up at the Old Bookshop in Bedminster, thrown by the folks at Sailor Jerry and Monkey Shoulder. A live funk band will precede DJs playing both rock and hip-hop ‘til midnight, while the taste-buds (as you should have come to expect by now) are not exactly neglected. Tickets, which include food and two cocktails mixed by some of Bristol’s finest bar staff, are £15.
