Bristol trio secure 2016 English Junior Club Golf Championships

Posted on: 23 Aug 2016

3 local players have triumphed for Long Ashton Golf Club while playing for Gloucestershire in the English Junior Club Championship. The trio took the spoils with just a one point victory over Cambridgeshire's Nene Park.

Nathan Moore, Sam Harrison and Sam Williams finished off their final round unaware of just how close they were to being crowned champions of the prestigious event held at Frilford Heath golf club near Oxford. The boys were tied on points with Nene Park at the end of the competition - with only the best two scores counting - so the count went to the full three players' scores and Long Ashton's Gloucestershire representatives triumphed 206 to 205.

As part of England Golf Week more than 500 competitors descended on Frilford Heath over five days to duke it out in a series of competitions and celebration of golf. Nathan and the two Sams can be rightly proud of the achievement which is not only great for their club, but their county and South West golf as a whole. Who knows, maybe they will be following in the footsteps of club mate and recent 2016 Ryder Cup selection Chris Wood!
