Long Ashton Golf Club is located on the outskirts of Bristol, and is making a big dent in the golfing world with some really talented players coming through.

Impressive play from plenty of notable members such as Chris Wood and Bethan Popel has meant that the club has gained a lot of interest from new players and even better is that the club takes membership from people at all levels of the game! Just three miles from the City Centre, it was founded in 1893 and is one of the best golf clubs in the city.

The 18 hole course is open all year round after a huge amount of work to ensure that both the greens and fairways are free-draining, meaning golf is available for 12 months and not the usual 6 as in lots of other clubs.

The Captains report, from club Captain Brian Hughes has had a lot of positive outlooks on the year so far. His report went on to say -

“A considerable number of members ask me “Are you enjoying your year as Captain?” My answer is always yes and this last month proves why.

Long Ashton took part in the County Centenary Plate, at Henbury Golf Club. We did not win the competition but put up a very creditable performance and it was good to meet fellow officers from other clubs.

On Friday 8th July I held my Captain’s Charity day in aid of Children’s Hospice South West. The course was in fantastic condition thanks to the efforts of our great Green Keeping Team. They also looked very “dapper” in their “I’ve been Tango’d” Team outfits.

July was a month that just kept giving and on the 26th I was a member of the LAGC Team who gained a 4 – 1 away victory over Cirencester GC, in the latest round of the GGU President’s Cup. We all played well and special thanks to all “the rookies” who stepped up to the plate to represent the club.”
