Impact Charity Rugby Event, Bristol, 13 August 2016

Posted on: 07 Jul 2016

Impact Charity is back for 2016! Held at Bristol Barbarians, Whitchurch, the guys at Impact are out to raise £30,000, for their amazing charities, Children's Hospice South West and The Jessie May Trust.

Now in its 4th year, last year saw The Impact Charity Rugby Team raise £26, 000 for their chosen charities. This year sees the recruitment of around 30 rugby novices and non-active players to take part in a physically demanding 10-week training program to learn the game of rugby, get fit and raise money for charity.

The program comes to end with a huge match day event on 13th August 2016, and is watched by over 1000 friends, family and supporters.

After three years of men’s rugby at Impact, they have moved on and are, this year, focusing on the ladies game with it being the main event. Although there will be a veterans game kicking off at 12pm.

The Veterans game will take to the pitch to play Broad Plain Select RFC, followed by the main event of Impact Trojan Ladies vs. Westbury Ladies RFC.

In addition to the lads and ladies putting their bodies through the pain barrier for 10 weeks they will also be taking part in hospice visits and family visits, sponsored runs, bucket collections, super market bag packing, raffle ticket sales the list goes on. Check out everybody’s progress on Facebook and Twitter.

Formed in 2013, by two Bristol Barbarians rugby players, Bob Barnes and Olly Slym, Impact Charity Rugby raised over £17,000 during the first two seasons for local charities and the organisers had a Surprise Surprise moment previously when Ben Cohen turned up to thank them for their time, culminating with a trip to Twickenham to lead the Guard of Honour during an England v France!

The Jessie May charity was founded in memory of Jessica May who died at home aged 4 1/2 months surrounded by her family and supported by a team of nurses. Her parents created Jessie May to ensure that every child who is not expected to reach adulthood receives nursing care within the home. Since 1996 they have been providing this care, free of charge, in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. More information at www.jessiemay.org.uk.

Children's Hospice South West have three South West hospices which offer care for children who have life limiting illnesses which means they will die before reaching adulthood. www.chsw.org.uk.

365Bristol are extremely proud to be supporting Impact Charity Rugby and will be organising the raffle this year so are on the hunt for lots of prizes to hopefully more than double the 60 from last year.

The event will take place at Norton Ln, Bristol, BS14 0BT, home of Bristol Barbarians, and kick off is 12pm.

Our target is to raise £30,000 overall and if you would be able to help in anyway please contact info@365bristol.com. Please contact this email address if you would like to order tickets or to gather any more information regarding the charity and the event.
