Kansai Kitchen Takeover at The Volunteer Tavern 27th June - 9th July 2016

Posted on: 27 Jun 2016

Kansai Kitchen will be taking over The Volunteer Tavern's kitchens between the 27th June and the 9th July. This exciting venture will see a whole new style of eating make its Tavern debut, and is definitely going to be worth checking out!

Kansai Kitchen is a Bristol based pop up street food company that has seen its chefs sample all kinds of Japanese foods and recreate only the best for their customers. Popping up at various locations and events all over Bristol, they are always in high demand and have mastered their art better than any of their contemporaries.

For the first week, the Tavern will still have its normal lunch menu, but will see the Kansai Kitchen crew take over the dinner service. Then, in the second week, Kansai will take over lunch AND dinner, so those who miss out the first week fear not! The famous Tavern Sunday Roast will still be served however, through both weeks.

One of the dishes on offer will be the lesser known street food favourite okonomiyaki. In the world of Japanese street food okonomiyaki is an absolute must-try. A batter is made with flavourful fish stock, yam, flour and egg. Shredded cabbage, spring onion and little bits of crunchy tempura batter are added and a pancake is formed. Once on the griddle it is topped with bacon, flipped and cooked until crisp on the outside, and soft in the centre. Then it is glazed with okonomiyaki sauce: rich, sweet and lip-lickingly delicious. Lastly, sprinkled with dried laver seaweed and the addition of bonito fish flakes adds a satisfying, umami-filled flavour. Delicious!

This is an exciting opportunity to try something new, an authentic and tastebud-tingling culinary experience in one of Bristol's most familiar eating spots. Due to expected high demand it is advised that everyone wishing to come over these weeks books a table. You can do this by calling the Tavern on 0117 955 8498. You can also connect with them through Facebook.
