Bristol Foodies Festival - 13-15 May 2016

Now in its 11th year, Foodies celebrates all things food across 13 festivals a year, from Edinburgh to Brighton and everywhere in-between. This weekend the festival sets up at Durdham Downs from Friday through to Sunday 11am to 7pm daily (Sunday closing time 6pm). Join the fun and enjoy a family day out jam-packed with activities, gastronomic delights and must-see exhibitions, for what’s set to be a sunny and warm weekend!

This year Foodies Festival welcomes celebrity chef Rosemary Schrager to the Aga Rangemaster Chef’s Theatre, who will be joining Michelin starred chefs Josh Eggleton (The Pony and Trap) and Simon Hulstone (The Elephant) showcasing their culinary skills and taking part in question and answer sessions with the audience. Also sharing top tips for 2016’s food trends will be MasterChef 2014 winner Ping Coombes and 2015 finalist Tony Rodd, alongside celebrity chef Nigel Brown, Romy Gill from Romy’s Kitchen and a whole host of top chefs, food writers and more.

Bristol food-lovers can also look forward to the West heat of the British Street Food Awards, showcasing an exciting array of street food, including Happy Maki sushi, The Mac Factory mac ‘n’ cheese, Croq & Balls and The Pizza Bike. If you fancy something a little healthier, this year sees the launch of the new “Feel Good Foods” theme at Foodies Festival, with top chefs and food writers knocking up healthy creations using superfoods such as freekeh, kelp and kale. A must-see for healthy food fanatics!

If you’re feeling brave, have a go at the all new Bug-Eating competition or enter the famous Chilli-Eating Challenge, for those that love to spice it up! If you’d rather relax with a cold beer, discover the Secret Bar hosted by Sharp’s Brewery or head to the Drinks Theatre where expert mixologists and sommeliers, including Neil Phillips and Charles Metcalfe, host champagne and wine masterclasses. Don’t miss Burlesque Baker Charlotte White whipping up summer bakes in the Cake & Bake Theatre. From vintage tea rooms, to pop-up cocktail bars, there really is something for everyone. Head to the Unsigned Music Awards Stage to hear the best of live music from local bands, and shop the Artisan Producers Market with over 120 stalls to browse.

Don’t forget to bring the children as the Olympic themed Children’s Cookery School allows little foodies to decorate their very own gold medals and take part in pizza making workshops. The perfect opportunity for little connoisseurs to explore their taste buds and learn skills they’ll be excited to practice at home.
