Tom Bird is an artist local to the South West. His pieces capture the raw power and emotion of the scenes and vistas we enjoy around this beautiful part of the world. The excellent Spoke & Stringer on Bristol’s Harbourside have teamed up with him to showcase some of his best work at their cafe-bar and restaurant over the coming weeks, with prints available to buy.

Spoke & Stringer itself couldn’t be a more perfect venue for this artwork to be displayed. They share the same ethos and lust for life, both taking inspiration from the local environment. The Harbourside’s ride-culture hotspot has a well-earned reputation for their ethically sourced and expertly prepared menus. They have quickly evolved into one of Bristol’s premier independent venues. Whether you’re looking for great food, awesome drinks or a coffee with friends, this is the best spot around. Next to their restaurant/bar is the shop – offering everything from jumpers and jeans to surfboards and bikes, some of the best designs around are available under one roof. Check them out at spokeandstringer.com or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Speaking of his approach to art, Tom Bird explained, “Growing up in Southwest England I have seen the coastal weather in countless different moods. Inspired by the energy of the wind and sun that penetrates these rugged scenes, I feel charged when the raw power cuts into my presence, in these moments I love to sit and let go of my thoughts and let myself become a part of it all. I feel like the richest person in the world when I walk through the ever changing, living and breathing coastline and I endeavour to re-create what I feel in these moments on to canvas.

“Although I know that what comes out through me is a two dimensional interpretation of these precious times, I feel that through art our vision can be expanded and we can see the three dimensional world as an infinitely fascinating, colourful experience.”
