Posted on: 29 Aug 2014

The 50th anniversary of Cole Porter's death is being marked in barnstorming musical style by the John Wilson Orchestra at the Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday 9th November 2014.

If anyone could pen a toe-tapping tune, it was Cole Porter, and their stop in the city is part of a whirlwind UK tour which climaxes at the world-famous and prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

John Wilson and his first-class musical ensemble will guide us through the uniquely glamorous and dynamic sound of Porter's musical hits from Hollywood and Broadway, including Begin The Beguine , My Heart Belongs To Daddy, Let's Do It and I've Got You Under My Skin.

The orchestra has become one of the world's most beloved group of musicians with national tours and annual sell-out Prom concerts.

The 13-date UK tour coincides the John Wilson Orchestra's new album, Cole Porter In Hollywood - released on October 6th by Warner Classics -  and recreates the unmistakable sound of 15 of the composer's big screen hits from films such as High Society, The Pirate and Can-Can.

The orchestra's blend of symphonic forces and big band jazz will be accompanied by the top singing talents of Anna-Jane Casey, Matthew Ford, Sarah Fox and others, to recreate Porter's trademark blend of powerhouse tunes and musical individuality for what's been described as "Technicolour for the ears".
