Wild Turkey Bourbon Cocktail Competition at Red Light Bar in Bristol

Posted on: 20 Aug 2014

The annual Wild Turkey Bourbon Cocktail Competition came to town last week with Bristol's finest bartenders competing for a place in the national final. Regional heats have taken place across the country over the past few weeks and the Bristol heat was held at the very cool ‘speakeasy’ Red Light bar, just off Park Street.

365Bristol were asked to judge the competition alongside Wild Turkey’s brand ambassador for the UK and it proved to be a tough decision as the quality and ingenuity of the cocktails was first class, across the board. Among the highlights were; Jo Cadwell, representing Flipside Cocktail Club (Whiteladies Road), who created a truly original cocktail called ‘Kentucky Roots’ - aptly named after the US state where Wild Turkey is produced and due to the cocktail’s special ingredient - homemade root beer; Luke from Severnshed, in his first competition (not that you could tell) who served up an apricot infused concoction; Rich, our gracious host for the day as the owner of the Red Light Bar, whose industry knowledge and smooth bar skills shone through; and finally Mike from Hyde & Co who entertained the judges with a fine Bourbon soaked tale delivered in a gruff Kentucky accent which accompanied a very fine drink indeed.

Ultimately it was Rich and Mike who proceeded through to the final which will take place on the 27th of August. Good luck to them both, I’m sure they’ll do Bristol proud, and they would both make worthy winners.
