24 Hours In Bristol Photo Competition

24 Hours In Bristol Photo Competition

Posted on: 20 Aug 2014

24 Hours In Bristol 2014 photographic competition is open for public submission until 23rd August. Anyone with a smartphone or camera is encouraged to get involved, engaging in a photography marathon that records a day in the life of Bristol over a 24 hour period.

A range of brilliant prizes are on offer, worth over £8,000, with three overall prizes as well as 3 prixes for the best photos taken in each hour of the competition. The competition will generate tens of thousands of images of Bristol’s vibrancy and colour, displaying the winning photographs in a major exhibition in October at the new Harbourside Arts Centre.

Competition judges include the Director General of the Royal Photographic Society, Michael Pritchard, the Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, and the Group Picture Editor of Bristol News & Media, Simon Galloway.

Judge Simon Galloway said: "we will be looking for truly unique images that sum up the spirit of the competition and the spirit of Bristol, from its colourful street art to the stunning landmarks - a side of Bristol that we never knew about, whether this be 4am by the docks or a midday stroll around Arnos Vale, the city is there for the taking.”

Photography HQ will be the new Harbourside Arts Centre, just off Millennium Square, which will be open throughout the 24 hour competition as a base for photographers, with refreshments, access to battery charging, event sponsor displays and other facilities on hand. There will also be product demos and other events taking place throughout the weekend, and refreshments available to keep photographers going during the 24 hour photo-marathon event.

Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson said "It's great to see the 24 Hours in Bristol photographic competition back for 2014. I was bowled over with the results of the first event last year. It's a highly creative initiative which is building up a tremendous photo-bank of stunning and curious Bristol images. I never go anywhere without my camera so I hope to enter some photographs myself this year".

And here is the bad news... it costs £18 to enter your first photo and then £10 per further 3 entries! If they are looking to generate tens of thousands of images, we’ve done the maths and think the prizes should be more than £8,000!

365Bristol will be running our own photographic competition, it will soon be opening with no cost to enter. There will be prizes for 12 of the pictures each being your picture included as one of the months in our 365Bristol charity calendar for 2015. Nominations for charities you would like all profits to be donated to now open – just email info@365bristol.com
