Campaign Launched to 'Bring Back Morph'

Posted on: 02 Nov 2013

An online campaign has been launched via the world’s largest crowd-funding platform Kickstarter to return popular character Morph to TV screens.

Morph was one of the very first characters concieved by Aardman Animations who later went on to create the Oscar winning Wallace and Gromit as well as a string of hit films such as ‘ Chicken Run’, ‘ Flushed Away’ and ‘ Pirates! - In An Adventure With Scientists’.

After beginning life some 30 years, Morph grew to great national popularity alongside TV presenter and artist Tony Hart whose desk he would happily mess up during episodes of 'Take Hart'. Such was Morphs fame that he was even awarded a coveted ‘Blue Peter’ Badge in 1981.

Aardman co-founder Peter Lord is the public face of the campaign which aims to raise £75,000, with the studio matching that amount, to be used in the production of twelve one-minute features starring the clay figure. Lord has assured fans of the character that even with an update Morph will retain many of his original charms saying that “I’m very keen on keeping the humour, slapstick and surrealism of the originals, whilst at the same time bringing Morph slightly more in line with the modern world.”

The online campaign will run until November 28th with production of the new episodes being started in January for a July release date. These new adventures would be made using the traditional stop-frame animation that was originally used to bring Morph to life.

Anybody contributing funds to the campaign will receive rewards from Aardman, dependent on the amount donated, plus access to a production blog created especially for that purpose.
