The brunch menu has a great selection for meat eaters and vegetarians, and I was really chuffed to find some delicious vegan options too. To compliment the cakes, Twelve also stock a huge range of loose leaf tea.

Clifton Village is well known for its fantastic selection of cafes and restaurants, all serving delicious and high quality food. I recently went to meet Jen, the owner of Twelve, and to try out the week-time brunch menu.

Twelve - Bristol Food Review

Twelve is located in one of my favourite parts of the village, being neighbour to Clifton Arcade and just a stone’s throw from Victoria Square. Inside, Twelve is a clean, bright, cosy space with seating over two levels and a small garden at the rear, which is a lovely sun trap in the summer. As you enter the cake counter is immediately to your right, with a selection of home-made cakes under glass domes.

Jen has owned Twelve for just over a year, and she is passionate about serving high quality, homemade food. Twelve don’t use food colouring or artificial flavourings in their food, and the vibrant colours in their cakes come from all-natural fruits and vegetables.

Twelve - Bristol Review

The brunch menu has a great selection for meat eaters and vegetarians, and I was really chuffed to find some delicious vegan options too. I went for avocado on granary toast, served with seeds and chilli. I had a portion of mushrooms rather than the optional poached egg, and it was a wonderful combination. The avocado was perfectly ripe and beautifully seasoned, and just the perfect amount of chilli. I loved the addition of seeds which added a nutty flavour. To go with my brunch, I chose a fruit smoothie. Freshly made, my smoothie was delicious and filling.

Sadly, I was too full to manage a cake, but having seen the wonderful selection, I’m not sure how I could have picked just one! I particularly loved the look of the Bakewell Tart, and the Courgette, Lime and Pistachio cake. To compliment the cakes, Twelve also stock a huge range of loose leaf tea. I tried the Earl Grey which was really lovely.

I will definitely be going back to Twelve to try out some more of the brunch options (there are even more choices if you go on a weekend) and to try some of those amazing cakes.
