With food of this quality and quantity and at such a reasonable price, The Flavour Sensation ranks as one of the best new restaurants in Bristol and is the new 'go to' eatery on Park Street

Hold on to your taste buds - a great new restaurant has landed on Park St. Calling any new food emporium The Flavour Sensation is a confidently proud boast, so you'd better make sure you live up to the hype and expectation. Without doubt, The Flavour Sensation does, serving up some of the best food the city has seen in some time.

The restaurant opened with a soft launch just after Christmas by Aga and her partner, and is located where Cafe Rouge used to be, keeping its split-level dining and decorated with bright, vibrant red and yellow seats.

The menu is diverse and takes in a multitude of dishes and flavours and some of the usual suspects, including burgers, steaks, pastas, salads, sharing platters and vegetarian options. Their strapline is 'the food you love without compromise', and that's precisely what they do, offering classic dishes from the main menu with the choice of an equivalent, healthier alternative to suit your dietary requirements.

From the evening main menu I kicked off with creamy mushrooms served with a creamy blue cheese sauce on a toasted bun (£3.95). It was a truly unctuous prelude, the textured, silky smooth cream sauce complementing a generous smattering of rich, pungent mushrooms, contrasting effortlessly and deliciously with the toasted base.  My dad plumped for the chargrilled chicken fillets with salad garnish and BBQ sauce (£3.95); the chicken was grilled to perfection and retained it flavour and moistness and worked a treat with the tangy BBQ sauce.

It didn't take long for my eyes to pop open with excitable glee and lip-smacking enthusiasm at the 'From the Grill' section. The chefs at The Flavour Sensation use the finest, world renowned Ashdale meat, hung for a minimum of 28 days so it's at peak tenderness and flavour. Put it  this way: I'd had two packets of Space Raiders and three cups of coffee all day, my stomach my rumbling and I needed something big - no, gargantuan - to fill my cosmic culinary void.

The TFS Grill Platter (£19.95) did the trick, and then some.  Comprising of rump steak, chicken fillet, gammon steak, lamb chop, sausage, fried egg, grilled cherry vine tomatoes, a Portobello mushroom, and triple-cooked potatoes, it was a carnivore's nirvana, a meat eater's mecca. As I masticated merrily on its meaty delights, I could hear my stomach thanking me for treating it to such exquisite, filling fare. As I'd ordered, the steak was well done, tasty but not dried out, and the chicken, lamb chop and sausage were equally proficiently cooked, with the sharp/sweet tang of the cherry tomatoes enhancing the dish with a fresh contrast, and the triple-cooked chips delightfully crunchy on the outside but fluffy inside.

Papa Caddick went for the 10z sirloin steak with cherry vine tomatoes, Portobello mushroom and special house salad (well, he was trying to atone a festive excess of Brazil Nuts and Quality Street). Cooked medium, it was a gloriously delicious slab of steak. In fact, it rendered him silent for the best of ten minutes as he chomped away at it, and it takes food of almost extra-terrestrial, otherworldly proportions to do that. He loved it. He wolfed it back. Not a scrap was left. Only a smile of contented satisfaction crossed his face when he'd demolished his and then optimistically eyed up the steak I was still tucking into. (He didn't get any.)

Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream - superb! At The Flavour Sensation BristolDessert - oh yes, there's ALWAYS room for dessert - came in the form of chocolate brownie with ice cream (£4.95) for me, and apple pie with custard for my dad. A generous slab of chocolate brownie had a slightly crispy top that, with a light tap of the spoon, gave way to a gooey, fudgey centre, the richness counterbalanced by a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  The apple pie was equally divine, generous slices of apple on top a thin, buttery base with plenty of silky smooth custard ladled over the top.

It's bang on the money then to say that The Flavour Sensation truly IS a flavour sensation, tastebud-ticklingly indulgent and a winning contender for one of the great new restaurants in Bristol. They're producing excellent covers with the finest quality ingredients, and not backwards at coming forwards when it comes to piling the plate with belly-busting portions. Compliments definitely go to Head Chef, Chris Marsden, who knows how to serve up a dish that's aesthetically pleasing, perfectly cooked and packed with flavour.

With food of this quality and quantity and at such a reasonable price, Aga and her team of friendly, efficient staff deserve to do well to and rank The Flavour Sensation as one of the best restaurants in Bristol and the new 'go to' eatery on Park Street.
