Finally a vegan haunt in Bristol that isn?t a café or a one off novelty that appeals to only acquired tastes. The Adam and Eve offers high quality pub food that even the most adamant meat-eater would enjoy.

The Adam and Eve, a small pub tucked away in Hotwells in Bristol, is the famous Small Bar’s latest venture. It brings together their passion for supporting independent UK companies and offering simple, delicious, plant-based, cruelty-free food and drinks. Providing us with a quaint haven of comfort food and a varied range of beers, ciders and spirits on a rainy Saturday evening, this place has quickly become one of our favourite eateries in Bristol.

The Adam and Eve's menu is 100% vegan (even the condiments on the table, including a jar of vegan mayo) and is rotated on a fortnightly basis to keep it seasonal and fresh. However, they also have a weekly Sunday roast and a monthly Tuesday evening 5 course bonanza that comes with a carefully selected beer to accompany each instalment. Although very much intrigued by these, we went to see what the evening menu had to offer.

After tackling the difficult decision of what to sample, I went for the Chorizo Chilli served with rice and a generous serving of sour cream. This was a lighter dish with chickpeas and vegan chorizo in a tomato sauce perfectly blended with subtle spices and a garnish of coriander. A delicious meal that delivered freshness and satisfaction.

Alex decided on the Haggis Burger served in a Hobbs House Bun with cheese, tomato, red onion, lettuce and a dollop of that vegan mayo; unsurprisingly the most popular item on the menu. Burger options for vegans when eating out are often nothing more than the safety net that lies within the realm of the bean burger. However, the haggis burger was a refreshing sight to behold on the menu, and did not disappoint. Peppery, flavourful and hearty, this dish is a fantastic plant-based take on a bar snack staple that even the Scots would be proud of.

After experiencing the delights of the main courses we couldn't resist going in for dessert. Our first choice was the Pineapple Tarte Tatin With Saffron Syrup, a delicately sweet pudding with a beautifully light, crisp and flakey pastry. The second option was simply a chocolate lovers dream. A Chocolate and Ginger Pudding With Torte and Vanilla Ice cream was everything you could wish for, gorgeously rich and decadent with all the flavours gracefully accompanying one another.

Finally a vegan haunt in Bristol that isn’t a café or a one off novelty that appeals to only acquired tastes. The Adam and Eve offers high quality pub food that even the most adamant meat-eater would enjoy, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere for all parties from families to a group of your mates. It’s safe to say they’ve got themselves a couple of new regulars.
