Santa's Grotto at Almondsbury Garden Centre.

Put simply, the Winter Wonderland Santa experience was utterly great fun. The Almondsbury elves were energetic, charismatic and joyful throughout, from the initial introduction by 'Cupcake' to the merry interactions throughout the children's journey from 'Sparkle', 'Twinkle' and 'Twonkle'.

The set itself, including Santa's workshop and the Grotto in general, was beautifully put together with a clear attention to detail and several little touches that added to the magic of the whole experience.

For a lot of us with past experience of crummy kids' Christmas events, the mention of a garden centre Christmas Grotto brings to mind images of a bargain-bucket, beardless Santa Claus smoking a fag out the back on his 15-minute break. This was far from the case at Almondsbury - the big man himself was dressed to perfection, enthusiastically interacting with each child and even giving out small gifts. The elves ensured that the children were fully entertained in the 10 minutes leading up to meeting Father Christmas and built up a huge amount of excitement even getting mum and dad involved.

All in all, we'd highly recommend Almondsbury Garden Centre's Santa's Grotto if you're looking for a family outing this Christmas - the experience was great fun and the staff took great care to put a personal spin on our visit. I'm sure the kids will remember this one for years to come!

The Grotto will be open every weekend from Saturday 24th November-Sunday 23rd December as well as on 14th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st December, with entry priced at £15 for children and £2.50 extra for adults. Booking before your visit is essential - head to the garden centre's booking page to check availability!
