Jack Savoretti - Live Music Review in Bristol

Our rating:

The artist has come a long way since I saw him at Start the Bus, commanding greater acclaim, garnering a bigger and wider audience, but not losing the personal touch or the passion or the love for the craft that he masters.

When I first came across Jack Savoretti four years ago, he was on stage in a small Bristol pub. Seemingly thrust into the spotlight, he performed his self-penned songs to only a handful of people that night.

Move forward to Tuesday 13th October 2015 at Bristol Trinity Hall and the same rugged Jack Savoretti took to the stage with a four-piece band bursting into new song Back to Me, along with all the other tracks from latest album 'Written in the Scars'. The unmistakable gravelly voice - seemingly laced with honey - sounds better than ever.

Now having grown into his clear and evident talent, he returns with much stronger numbers and tunes, and a new felt air of confidence, even taking on the unreleased Bob Dylan track, 'Nobody 'cept You' – enough of a feat in itself, but he rearranged it in a way that made it his own.

Finishing the powerful set with firm favorite 'Knock Knock', and an encore 'Back where I Belong' left the crowd begging for more.

The artist has come a long way since I saw him at Start the Bus, commanding greater acclaim, garnering a bigger and wider audience, but not losing the personal touch or the passion or the love for the craft that he masters! Like a fine wine he seams to mature with age. Cheesy line? Yes, sure. But some clichés are clichés for a reason.

It leaves me wondering what the next four years will bring, one thing I know for sure it will be closer to arenas than church halls.

A true five-star live performer and one you absolutely must see.

5/5
