God of War III Remaster is great for people who haven?t yet played the game and own a PS4, but if you?ve played it previously on PS3 I would say don?t bother repurchasing this game because it?s exactly the same with nothing new.

10 years ago a new franchise was born on the PS2 known as God of War and it was a fresh when it came down to the style and ideas with its Greek Mythological setting to the fast paced gameplay. Santa Monica Studios have now re-released God of War III on the PS4 with 1080p and 60 frames per second.

In God of War you play as Kratos who is a great Spartan General who was feared throughout Greece as he was a revered military leader, until one battle wasn’t going his way he called upon Aries the God of War to help him win the battle then he became a servant to Aries. Unfortunately Kratos was tricked into killing his own family and Zeus tasked him to kill Aries and then Kratos would take up the throne as the new God of War. In God of War III Kratos wants to get revenge on Zeus because he betrayed him and the only logical plan Kratos has is to murder his way through the entire Greek Mythological Pantheon of Gods, Demi Gods and creatures. So you’ll be killing Gods like Helios to Hercules.

The gameplay is a hack and slash in the same vein as Devil May Cry, but with more brutality with both violence and difficulty this not for the faint of heart from a gameplay stance and if you’re not a fan of blood and gore. To begin with the game isn’t too difficult, but as you progress through the game they throw more enemies at you and you have to time your hits and blocks accordingly, also they throw bigger and harder creatures like Centaurs.

It’s not all fast paced action and hardcore violence there will be quiet moments where you explore the environment from Greek Mythology such as the Underworld where you’ll find upgrades for your health, magic and stamina and read about the world. Speaking of upgrades when you kill enemies red orbs will come spewing out and these are for upgrading your weapons that you come across on your adventure from your Blades of Exile to the Head of Helios, yes you have a head as a weapon.

If you’re looking for a major leap in visual fidelity then you won’t get it here, don’t get me wrong some textures have been polished a bit, but it doesn’t look that different to the PS3 version of the game. The game still looks beautiful and holds up considering the game is 5 years old, the environments are huge and have epic proportions with segments where you climb up the body of one the titans Cronos where then eventually go inside him and rip his insides out, epic! The detail in the executions are very graphic detailing each rip of a limb and tearing of skin which is almost on par with Mortal Kombat X’s gore, coupled with the games sound design with the operatic musical score.

God of War III Remaster is great for people who haven’t yet played the game and own a PS4, but if you’ve played it previously on PS3 I would say don’t bother repurchasing this game because it’s exactly the same with nothing new.
