The turntable genius DJ Yoda returned to Bristol last night when he performed his latest creation - a 90 minute seamless set all about gaming - and the crowd appreciated every nostalgic minute of it.

Coming onto the stage with the biggest smile on his face, you knew you were in for a treat because this man always delivers and not in a cocky way either. Having explored a range of subjects for his past endeavours, this current tour was all about loved and fondly remembered games from the early 80s to the present day.

It all started with Pong, shortly followed by Pac-man, and there were constant cheers and gasps of "I had this game" and "I remember this" throughout the whole night.

DJ Yoda, who is described as a turntablist, producer and cut-and-paste master, always puts on a full-on audio and visual display of entertainment and awakens everyone's senses.

Between looking at the three screens that were set up around him and DJ Yoda himself as he worked on his turntables, there was a constant welcomed assault on people's eyes and ears. People really felt the forever changing beat as he churned out a mix of music that included 8 bit, hip hop, grime, dubstep, drum and bass and a bit of cheesy pop.

The crowd were mostly made up of people in their 30s and 40s and the room was filled with happy faces; which was infectious and warming. We reminisced about many consoles including - Atari, Sega, Nintendo as well as the Playstation - and we laughed when we were reminded about the old gaming adverts.

As far as actual games went, we had a bit of everything - including Donkey Kong, OutRun, Duck Hunt, Double Dragon, The legend of Zelda, Street Fighter, Pokemon, Gauntlet, Streets of Rage, Mario and Mortal Kombat. But by far the biggest crowd pleaser out of the old stock was Tetris. The already happy atmosphere of the room literally lifted up even further at that point and DJ Yoda knew it. It was accompanied by dubstep beats and everyone went berserk for it.

People also appreciated a bit of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Sims, Guitar and DJ Hero and there was a massive cheer for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. But what was really clever and fitting was when after we had some Grand Theft Auto, the 'game over' sign came up before we were greeted with the 'continue?' gaming screen and a count down. Of course everyone shouted yes and whooped and cheered, before DJ Yoda finally rounded the night up.

A History of Gaming is niche but is guaranteed to entertain the majority of people, whether full on hardcore gamers or not. You don't need to know much about what he's presenting you with to enjoy his famous flow - he just always provides a great set.
