David Walliams' Gangsta Granny - Bristol Theatre Review

The energy from the actors was both timely, magnificent to a point and quite contagious. So much so it began to have a pantomime feel and you guessed the children loved it!

I am not one that attends plays or performances at the theatre all too often, so this was a welcome change me. I didn't know what to make of things when I arrived - especially given the hustle and bustle of those longing to get inside - but I was quickly advised of what to do and from there it was a great night...

Gangsta Granny will play a 4-day, 7-show run at The Hippodrome from May 31st until June 3rd 2017.

I am fully aware of Little Britain and the furore behind it - and of course, those magnificently talented players in the makeup of the programme were absolutely tremendous. Who knew one of them wrote books? Yet alone 'children's books'?!

David Walliams' Gangsta Granny - Bristol Theatre Review

The gist of the story is this little boy named Ben and his relationship with his grandmother. How over time and by chance it evolves into a solid friendship and the adventures they go on together, but most importantly how we should cherish and treasure our elders for the knowledge and quirkiness they bring as they may surprise you.... I can honestly say I had to get my child brain on and once I did; which meant me stop being over analytical it all became absolutely marvellous. The energy from the actors was both timely, magnificent to a point and quite contagious. So much so it began to have a pantomime feel and you guessed the children loved it!

Soon the rustle of sweet packets and constant chatter were in the background and Mr Parker's nosiness or Flavio's perceived capability to dance were the toast of the day. I find it I incredible they turned a short story into a two hour long play and it's marvellous. I felt like a child again but didn't get too carried away. The performance was genius, engaging and exhausting. I laud all the actor's as they never lost anyone's attention.

I highly recommend this for the kids may be if you wanted a little escapism you could attend as an adult, but don't be afraid to get involved...I booed Mr Parker quite a lot.

Absolute fun 4/5

Born in Zimbabwe but a Bristolian at heart. My longest love affair has been with music and proud to say my first purchase was the album 'Push' by Bros I have always strived to be the cat amongst the pigeons and revitalise the music scene. My music tastes are so eclectic I often wonder what I would be if I wasn't surrounded by the essence of life. I enjoy dancing hence just a drum beat will get me going. I love my son. I love life and always impartial to a spot of cider... I mean who wouldn't? ..
