Cox and Baloney have recently expanded their menu from their award-winning afternoon teas to now include brunch and sharing platters in the evening. My husband and I popped in early on a Friday evening to try out the sharing platters.

The platters all come with crunchy pickles, chutney, salad, seasonal fruits, fresh bread and crackers. The platter options are;  Cheese ‘n’ Pickles, Meat Feast, Mixed Platter and also The Gentleman’s Platter which has Somerset Cheddar or Brie, slow roasted ham and a Bishopston pork pie, and finally, the Gin and Cheese option which is a selection of cheeses plus a gin and tonic. See the menu here.

Cox and Baloney - Bristol Food Review

We went for the Mixed Platter (£16 for two people) and a pot of Earl Grey tea. All the elements of the platter were great quality, and included Somerset Brie. The bread was fantastic, and we were offered more when we scoffed the lot! We had the platter for two, and it was a really good portion. I particularly enjoyed the Applewood Smoked Cheddar, and the chorizo. The homemade chutney is really delicious! The Earl Grey was wonderful too, and it was definitely hard to pick a tea as there were so many options of both classic and unusual.

If you fancy something a bit stronger than tea, you can also have a cocktail (or teapotful!) many of which feature tea.  Cox and Baloney also have a carefully curated selection of gin, including Bristol legends, Psychopomp. Open until 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it’s the perfect place for after work drinks, or to start your night out. The cocktail menu is here.
