The fact that my dish wasn't even on the main dinner menu but they managed to concoct a tasty option after listening to what I could eat just shows how versatile this place is...

There's something about the Colston St. Bar & Kitchen that is so welcoming; maybe it's the friendly staff, the open feel of the restaurant or the live background music that often accompanies it. Whatever it is though, I can confidently say that this Bristol dining place is a lovely option if you fancy a bite to eat.

Colston Hall

Being placed on the ground floor of the Colston Hall, a lot of people who visit this very reasonably priced restaurant are also planning on taking in a performance at the venue as well. That was the case for myself and my friend because it felt like a very convenient option and the menu (which is influenced by America and Europe) appealed to our differing tastes (I have to be cautious about where I eat due to a strict diet.)

The first thing I noticed was that this place hosts a fantastic bar stocked with various alcoholic beverages from around the world (choose from their own range of ales and there's a fabulous selection of wines and spirits) but if you are not fancying that, you can go for the tea/coffee and cake option. There's a great atmosphere from the bar staff that serve you as you get the feeling that they really enjoy working there - they mesh well together and you can't magic that up.

80 diners can fit in this restaurant and it can get quite busy but whether it's quiet or bustling, it still has that nice chilled vibe about the place. The walls around you are full length windows and this gives you the feeling that you are in a generous space rather than being cramped.

Colston Hall

They open from 8am for breakfast rolls, take-away coffees and cakes but we were there for their dinner menu. I went for a succulent slab of grilled chicken, with roasted butternut squash, cauliflower, mushrooms and salad. (Andy the manager accommodated my dietary requirements easily and didn't at all make me feel awkward when I mentioned the list of things I have to avoid.) Whereas my friend went for the classic CSBK burger (beef patty, smoked streaky bacon, Applewood smoked cheddar, onion rings, lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber and pepper relish). This also came with a side of fries and was the perfect filling amount that consists of a burger that was just the right amount of juicy.

The fact that my dish wasn't even on the main dinner menu but they managed to concoct a tasty option after listening to what I could eat just shows how versatile this place is; there's always the option to go for a salad, soup of the day or just some side dishes if you are wanting a smaller dish.

I would definitely return to this place, either for food or just a drink and I can see how it would be the perfect spot to catch up with friends - don't bypass it thinking it's only an option if you are going to the theatre, all are welcome to this space that has become popular with couples, large groups and people out on their own.
