Biblos wraps are a stuff of legend in Bristol; as well as feeding hungry festival goers at Glastonbury, and visitors to Banksy’s Dismaland, Biblos has three venues in Bristol with a fourth opening in Wapping Wharf on 24th March.

The team from Biblos describe their new venture as, “an authentic Caribbean casual diner” with recipes inspired by co-owner William Clarke’s heritage. Their famous wraps and Middle-Eastern inspired fillings (the recipes for which came from co-owner Ariel Czaczkes’s family) will be in attendance, alongside slow-cooked curry goat, jerk belly pork and BBQ jerk baby back ribs, as well as a host of veggie and vegan dishes. Look out for our review of Calypso Kitchen when it opens!

Recently, I visited the Stokes Croft branch to try out one of their famous wraps.

Biblos - Bristol Restaurant & Takeaway Review

Each one of the existing venues has its own character and a slightly differing menu, while still keeping the key elements the same. The Stokes Croft branch is bright and colourful, and has a large window at the front which is perfect for people-watching.

Being a first-time visitor, I asked the staff to give me a recommendation for my wrap. They suggested the Jerk Fried Chicken with added halloumi. It’s a combination that I never would have thought to put together but I was more than happy to go with it as I love both those things.

The wraps are made from fresh Khobez bread, and are filled with fresh salad and pickles, then with whichever sauces and fillings you choose. I asked for my sauces on the side so I could mix and match the flavours as I went along.

Biblos Review

The “JFC” was delicious; really crisp and succulent. The jerk flavour is subtle, so it was good to have the chilli sauce to ramp up the spiciness. The halloumi slices were just the right size to retain their heat and softer texture against the cold salad. I loved the combination of the halloumi and the big chunks of chicken. The flavours of the two remain separate but are entirely complimentary. A great recommendation! The bread, salad and pickles were also delicious and had great texture.

I had the regular sized wrap at £5.20, with added halloumi at £1. However, if you visit between 12 and 3 from Sunday to Thursday, the wrap is just £3.95 which is a brilliant bargain. This deal is available for JFC, roasted veg or falafel. I also had a can of Blood Orange San Pellegrino at £1.50.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and give great recommendations! All in all this was a fab experience and Biblos would be a great place to nip in for a quick but tasty lunch. There are also lots of options if you’ve got longer to linger over your meal, such as salads, sharing platters and main course portions of the fillings served with rice. I would definitely go back, especially to have a sharing platter or main course of that delicious fried chicken.
