The Railway Children tells the story of three children forced to face the anxieties of growing up in order to learn the things in life that really matter. The classic story is one of Edwardian England on the brink of major change, and, of course, of the Golden Age of British steam railways.
Following the abrupt imprisonment of their father, Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis move to rural Yorkshire with their mother, leaving behind a comfortable and safe experience to find a brand-new world of insecurity and hardship. What they also encounter, though, is love, resilience and humanity.
Mike Kenny's wonderfully imaginative adaptation of the original E. Nesbit novel has wowed audiences worldwide, breaking box office records at the National Rail Museum in York and Waterloo Station in recent years.
Bristol Old Vic Theatre School is proud to be returned to The Redgrave to present this perfect Christmas tale - one of the extraordinary things we can achieve when we all look out for each other.
