John Mayall at The Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday 5 November 2017

John Mayall will perform at The Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday 5 November 2017.

The legendary English blues singer, pianist, harmonica player, guitarist, and songwriter John Mayall plays Colston Hall this November for what is guaranteed to be a captivating performance of the authentic sound of British blues music.

Mayall has been performing and making music for more than 50 years and has served as a pioneer of blues music, rightly earning him the title of ‘The Godfather of British Blues’. He returns to Bristol to perform in his iconic style which remains as vital today as it ever was.

Support comes from Texan blues guitarist Buddy Whittington who makes a welcome return to the UK with The Buddy Whittington Band.

John Mayall is regarded by many as the ‘Godfather of British Blues’, and one of Blues most influential artists ever. Members of his pioneering band The Bluesbreakers included  Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green and Mick Taylor. With Clapton as guitarist, the band released the now classic album, The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, which became their commercial breakthrough. Clapton left shortly after to form the band Cream.

In the 1970s, Mayall incorporated other influences into his music, including jazz, funk and pop elements, and released a score of albums. In 1982 he reunited with  Mick Taylor, John McVie and Colin Allen to embark on a world tour, and in 1984 the name The Bluesbreakers was reinstated. In 2005, Mayall was awarded an OBE, but in 2008 he decided to retire The Bluesbreakers once more to work on other projects. Now, post 80, and 64 albums later, this Godfather is still making music and showing no signs of stopping yet.
