Music and arts venue on Bath Road

Described by Guardian journalist John Mitchell as an "ace compact boozer”, The Thunderbolt is a somewhat of a live music institution in Bristol.

In its heyday, the venue was as a main circuit venue, meaning touring acts would regularly stop off to perform in its vibrant gig space.

But even now, The Thunderbolt continues to host gigs throughout the week, including lots of local talent. Alongside music, the venue welcomes arts and community events too.

The building

The building itself is an amazing restoration project; it's a Grade II listed, tollhouse from the 1830s. It's hard not to feel charmed by its quaint exterior.

Complete with a large, sunny beer garden (with its own play area), The Thunderbolt blossoms as a summer pub, in addition to its formidable reputation as a live music venue.

Venue hire

The venue regularly packs out for performances, but did you know you can book a party there? Why not have your next party somewhere well-versed in holding events.

Whilst The Thuderbolt is big enough to entertain 150 people with its 4K PA rig, the venue retains an intimate and friendly feel.

The Thunderbolt's location makes it a perfect place for a shindig, too: it's situated just a few minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station, near Paintworks.
