Spike Island is an internationally renowned centre for the production and presentation of contemporary art and design. It houses a gallery, a café and working spaces for artists, designers and creative businesses. It is also a vibrant hub for debate, offering the chance for audiences and visitors to engage directly with artists and creative process through participation and discussion.

Spike Island offers a year round, high quality programme of exhibitions and events to promote it's vision of positioning art centrally in society. The centre collaborates with a wide community of artists and designers, local and regional partners, international institutions, museums and universities to foster a dynamic and vibrant environment for all.
Located by the river and the 'new cut' waterway, in-between Bedminster and the Harbourside; the space is a Mecca for creatives in the city and beyond.
It is a partner of Tate as a member of the Plus Tate network. Plus Tate is an initiative launched by Tate in 2010, aiming to develop and strengthen the visual arts ecology across the UK through contributing its resources to a network of organisations and individuals for the benefit of the wider public. Spike Island is one of sixteen institutions to join the scheme in 2015, selected on the basis of ‘a strong artistic vision, a focus on contemporary art, outstanding programming and a commitment to local community engagement through art.’
The Spike Island Café is open seven days a week, serving a range of drinks, snacks and meals in an open and relaxed riverside spot. It can be used by both people visiting the artists and exhibitions or by those simply wandering around the Harbourside, meeting friends or working in the building.
The Café is also available for hire as a unique space to be used for private and corporate events including business meetings, birthday parties, writers clubs and more.
